East Bay College Agile Network (EBCAN) Evaluation and Technical Assistance
Many students face challenges in advancing their academic careers—especially first-generation students, those from low-income households, and those who face racial or ethnic discrimination. The East Bay College Agile Network (EBCAN) hired SPR to help member institutions identify and adopt effective practices for eliminating barriers to transfer and improving outcomes and experiences for transfer students.
Project Highlights
Clearer roadmaps for transfer students.
Our team supported EBCAN in creating new technology tools to help students understand which courses count towards their bachelor’s degree for transfer.
Welcoming and inclusive recruitment.
SPR’s data-gathering and facilitation provided insights on improving CSUEB campus tours and targeting recruitment toward underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and first-generation college students.
Demystifying financial aid.
EBCAN actively engaged students to gather input on how to make financial aid information more accessible and easily understood, earlier in their exploration process.
EBCAN is a partnership between Chabot-Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD), Las Positas College, Chabot College, and California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). It is dedicated to improving student transfer experiences, increasing student transfer rates, and closing equity gaps for students transferring between community colleges and university systems to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
SPR provided technical and facilitation support to the leadership team and four cross-institutional teams of instructors, counselors, advisors, and administrators. Our team also helped college partners improve student engagement and data collection and analysis processes.
This work informed the EBCAN’s key strategies. With SPR’s help, EBCAN has reduced student burdens, created more accessible transfer pathways, and developed innovative tools to better support students in advancing their academic and professional careers.
